Abstract Flower
This abstract creation is result of 'playing' with Photoshop. This is the way that I get to know Photoshop Tools and Filters. Hope you would find this interesting as well. TIP: 1.What ever you create do not Flatten the image, that way you will have all steps on separate layers and will know how you create each effect. 2. Do not crop the image after first few steps (in this case I crop the image and I do not have higher resolution).

1. It
can happen from very simple thing like this: I did like the colors of
the blush
and I wanted to make similar Gradient, you can see Gradient Editor image here. Open a New Document, apply gradient at angle 45 degrees, and name it Gradient. |
2.Duplicate Gradient layer and rename it to Displace& Twirl, and go to Filter>Distort>Displace. In Dialog Box enter values H=10% V=10% and select PSD file for displacement. (I do have a folder with the images that I create in such way>Experimentation and I used one for Displacement Map, you can download the image I used here, or you can use your own). Press OK. Repeat Distort filter few times by pressing Ctrl+F till you get image to look like this. Go to Filter>Distort>Twirl>Angle 115 Degrees. |
3.Select the Pen Tool and draw few petals shapes and stroke the path with the brush (size of the brush depends on the size of your document). For the pistils I used PS default preset Paintbrush Oval 45 px Multiply. (You can find those when you press the arrow next to the brash icon). |
4.Your image should look like this. |
5.For the petals, I used Orchid image that I have (any flower image will do just fine), make a selection of one flower, go to Edit>Copy and Edit>Paste to your document. Make as many copies as you want, place them in petals shape. Link Orchid Flower copies and Merge, name it as you wish, I named mine Orchid. |
6.To make distortions Go to Filter>Liquify and use Warp Tool to push pixels of the pistils and petals forward dragging with mouse. When you are satisfied with the distortions press OK. Go to Edit>Transform Tool (Ctrl+T)>Distort and make transformations to fit nicely in petals outlines. Go to Layer Styles>Inner Glow> Default Settings>Technique>Precise. If need Scale Layer Style Effect. |
7.This is how my image looks after Liguify & Transform distortions. Make a New Layer and Stamp all Visible Layers (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E). Go to Image>Adjustments Equalize, add Layer Mask, mask the edge parts of the flowers and distortions. Set Blending Mode to Multiply and lower the Opacity to 47%. |
8.I did like the details on the image and I want them to stand out. Make two copies of the Displace&Twirl Layer and place them above the Gradient Layer. First copy I named Perspective Transformation 1, go to Edit Transform (Ctrl+T) and select>Perspective, drag the bottom corner handles>leftward & rightward. To Commit transformation press Enter or Double-click inside the transformation marquee. Add Layer Mask and mask areas that where covering the flower (see Image 1). Second copy I named Perspective Transform&Distort 2, go to Edit>Transform (Ctrl+T) Select>Perspective and repeat the same steps as for the first copy. Right click and select>Distort, drag the top handle inward and bottom outward (see Image2). |
9.This is how your image should look now. To see Layer Palettes click here. |
10.Add New Layer and Stamp All Visible (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E), set Blending Mode to Soft Light. If needed you can Adjust Levels. The experimentations like this are fun to do, along the way you are learning by creating the interesting images. |
